The Western North Carolina Mountains are a great place to live.  The weather is nice, it's affordable, the people are friendly, and the pace of life is as busy or laid-back as you want it to be.

 

As other growing parts of the country have shown us all too well, it's always a challenge to maintain the equilibrium between development and conservation.  Newcomers need places to live and work, visitors need lodging,  and everyone s got to eat somewhere ..

Finding the right balance may be a subject of never-ending discussion and differing opinions but controlling growth so that it doesn't destroy the very essence of what attracts everyone to come here is essential. 

 

The Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy is an important part of the effort to keep the Western North Carolina mountains beautiful.
